News Releases

My media experience ranges from helping coordinate and manage press conference, traditional news releases and advisories and pitching story ideas. Each of the below examples are from releases I've drafted with information and links to coverage included.

United and Strong: UMKC Women of Color Leadership Conference

Angela Rye will serve as keynote speaker at 12th annual conference

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City Division of Diversity and Inclusion has confirmed “empowermenteur,” social justice advocate and political strategist Angela Rye as the keynote speaker for its Women of Color Leadership Conference on June 16.

The theme of the 12th annual WOCLC is “United and Strong: Rising Through the Struggle.” The conference will be held at the Student Union, 5100 Cherry St., Kansas City, Missouri. Registration is $60 and is open to the public.

The conference begins with an 8 a.m. check-in, with sessions from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Rye is speaking at noon. Four blocks of workshops, a continental breakfast and lunch during the keynote address make up the day. Vendors will also be available throughout the day for attendees to shop their wares.

UMKC to Go Denim during Sexual Assault Awareness Month

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Violence Prevention & Response Program, the UMKC Women’s Center, and UMKC Student Affairs and Enrollment Management will recognize Denim Day USA at UMKC Wednesday, April 26, during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Denim Day is a global campaign to raise awareness for sexual assault.
For the past 18 years, Peace over Violence has run its Denim Day campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Violence Awareness Month. The campaign was originally triggered by an Italian Supreme Court ruling to overturn a rape conviction on the basis that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
